here’s to good women: may we know them, may we be them, may we raise them.

with two sisters, i’m sure my mom hung this quote in our childhood bathroom for a reason. you couldn’t avoid it. it was hanging right there on the wall across from the toilet. it was the only thing to look at while you were doing your business. usually i looked at it and felt bad because i had just hit one of my sisters and that didn’t seem like something a good woman would’ve done. but somedays i starred at it and wondered what being a good woman looked like. i wondered what she ate, what her job was, what kind of clothes she wore, what she did on saturday’s. and then i wondered if i’d be one.
a few months ago, i went back to my childhood house and saw this quote hanging in the bathroom. i started to laugh because it brought back so many great memories. then and there i decided i would create my own piece of artwork for this quote. i chose my stripes and buns style because it’s about women and simplicity, just like the quote. below is the final piece, which i love. i illustrated it one night after my son and husband had gone to bed. it was one of those nights at the kitchen table with a glass of red wine, one of those good nights. the piece is now hanging in my house as a reminder to be a good woman, to surround myself with good women, and maybe, one day, to raise a good woman. 8 x 10 prints are available.
